Wira Liandy (b. 2000, Indonesia) is a contemporary painter whose work bridges human psychology and the natural world. A graduate of ISI Yogyakarta, he is known for his recurring pangolin motif — a metaphor for emotional defence and self-preservation. Using acrylic, spray, and mixed media, Wira blends realism and expressionism into vivid explorations of vulnerability and resilience. Winner of Best Artwork (Aksi Artsy 4, 2021), his work is featured on IndoArtNow and Artsy, marking him as one of Indonesia’s most compelling new voices.

  • Wira Liandy (b. 2000, Aceh, Indonesia) is a contemporary painter whose practice examines the intersection between human psychology and the natural world. A graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, 2022, Wira combines realism, expressionism, and mixed media techniques — including acrylic, spray, and found materials — to create deeply symbolic works that explore vulnerability, instinct, and resilience.

At the heart of his visual language is the pangolin, an animal that instinctively curls into a protective sphere when threatened. For Wira, this gesture becomes a metaphor for human defence mechanisms — what he describes as “unconscious resources used by the ego to reduce internal conflict.” His paintings translate this psychological theory into vibrant, layered imagery, where scales, textures, and animal forms mirror the mind’s instinct to protect itself.

Wira’s compositions often radiate bold, dynamic energy — luminous colour fields intersected by expressive lines and textures that suggest both protection and exposure. The result is a visual tension between strength and fragility, echoing the human struggle to remain open in a world that demands defence.

Since 2018, Wira has participated in numerous group exhibitions across Indonesia, including Yogyakarta and Jakarta, and has been featured on international platforms such as IndoArtNow and Artsy. In 2021, he received Best Artwork recognition at Aksi Artsy 4 (Yogyakarta), affirming his growing presence in Southeast Asia’s contemporary art scene.

Through his fusion of psychology, symbolism, and natural observation, Wira Liandy crafts a modern bestiary of the human condition — where every creature reflects an aspect of ourselves, and every instinct becomes a mirror of the soul.
