Triana Nurmaria

Triana Nurmaria (b. 1995, East Java, Indonesia) is a contemporary painter whose work meditates on alienation as both a psychological condition and a bodily experience. A graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, she explores the human figure as a vessel for emotion, isolation, and self-inquiry — poised between presence and absence, reality and dream.

Her figures often appear suspended in liminal, surrealistic spaces — compositions that balance fragility and strength, silence and tension. Through bold brushwork and spontaneous gesture, Triana visualizes the unseen: the interior voice, the quiet pulse beneath modern noise.

Her work Hear the Depth, exhibited at the Yogya Annual Art Festival #9, embodied this theme with poetic force — transforming silence into an act of awareness and resistance. In 2024, she was awarded Most Promising Artist of the Year (Emerging Artist Category) at the UOB Painting of the Year, Indonesia, for Harmoni Kehidupan di Lereng Merbabu (Life’s Harmony on the Slopes of Mount Merbabu) — a luminous depiction of human and natural coexistence that captivated both judges and audiences.

Nurmaria’s work has been shown widely across Indonesia, including the Yogyakarta National Museum, Bale Banjar Sangkring, R.J. Katamsi Gallery, and Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta, and is featured on platforms such as The Artling, Saatchi Art, Artsy, and IndoArtNow.
