Tosan Tri Putro

Tosan Tri Putro (b. Indonesia) is a multidisciplinary designer, educator, and artist based in Yogyakarta whose practice bridges design, psychology, and spirituality. A lecturer in design and visual communication, Tosan explores how art can serve as a tool for empowerment and sustainability — a means of reconnecting the external world of form with the inner world of being.

His visual language merges symbolic imagery with layered narrative, reflecting the human journey toward self-awareness and integration of the unconscious. Using recurring motifs, he navigates the tension between guidance and uncertainty, light and darkness, consciousness and the unknown.

In his two-panel series Guidance and Uncertainty, Tosan constructs a poetic allegory of individuation. In Guidance, a small boat moves toward a lighthouse — a metaphor for enlightenment and awakening, the emergence of awareness. In Uncertainty, the same vessel drifts alone across an open sea — a meditation on fear, surrender, and the vastness of the unconscious.

Through these visual metaphors, Tosan invites contemplation of the liminal space between knowing and not knowing, the threshold where design becomes reflection and art becomes a mirror for the soul.
