About Psychodrama

First created by psychiatrist Jacob L. Moreno in the 1920s, Psychodrama is a dynamic, embodied form of therapy that transforms stories into healing.

Through role-play, storytelling, and action, participants revisit unfinished experiences, reclaim their voice, and awaken to deeper presence.

Moreno believed that every human is a genius — not in the sense of rare brilliance, but as inherently creative and capable of self-healing. His pioneering work laid the foundation for many therapeutic innovations, including systemic and constellation-based approaches.

Moreno also challenged the giants of his time. He critiqued Sigmund Freud for focusing on the past, saying: “You analyze their dreams; I give them the courage to dream again.” Where Freud placed people on a couch, Moreno placed them on an acting stage — turning passive analysis into active transformation.

With Carl Jung, he disagreed on the notion of the collective unconscious, arguing that true healing must be grounded in lived, relational reality rather than abstract archetypes. For Moreno, transformation happened in the here and now — through relationship, action, and collective witnessing.
