Seno Wahyu Samporno (b. 1993, Malang, Indonesia) is a contemporary artist whose practice bridges philosophy, self-reflection, and Indonesian visual heritage. Recognized for his distinct line-based abstraction and fusion of traditional Javanese motifs with modern expressionism, Seno explores what he calls “The Self Contemplating Itself” — an ongoing inquiry into consciousness, empathy, and existence.
Working across painting, drawing, and mixed media, Seno constructs intricate fields of gesture and colour that dissolve the boundaries between body, thought, and world. His language of lines rejects dimensionality, instead evoking movement and awareness as continuous flow. Philosophically, his works draw upon thinkers such as Immanuel Levinas, Gabriel Marcel, and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, visualising the transformation from egoistic subjectivity to an embodied unity between self and other.
His award-winning series Introspeksi Diri (Self Introspection) — composed of 288 card-sized painted panels — exemplifies this introspective method: a visual archive of fragmented memories reassembled into wholeness.
Seno has received multiple accolades, including:
Most Promising Artist of the Year (UOB Painting of the Year, Indonesia – Emerging Artist Category, 2018 & 2019)
UOB Southeast Asia Exhibition (Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, Singapore)
NATURA HOMINIS, National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta
His works have been featured widely in Indonesia and abroad and are represented on IndoArtNow, affirming his status among Southeast Asia’s rising contemporary voices.
Through vibrant colour, layered line, and conceptual depth, Seno Wahyu Samporno articulates a universal meditation on the evolving self — where reflection becomes revelation, and thought becomes form.
