Nisa R.A

Nisa holds a bachelor's degree in Film and Television from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta, and a master's degree in Cultural Studies from Sanata Dharma University, where her research explored the fear narratives shaping Acehnese women's bodies. She deepened her directing craft at the New York Film Academy.

Her international formation spans artist residencies in China and Iran and the Angkor Photo Workshop in Cambodia. She is the founder of Breaking the Chain Collective, a creative movement dismantling systemic gender oppression through art, and contributes to the creative industry through Melantang Cinema Production House.

Her work has been exhibited and screened internationally — in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Switzerland, and Cambodia — at venues including Objectifs Gallery (Singapore), LASALLE College of the Arts, Cemeti Art Institute, and Tembi Museum, with screenings at Beijing Normal University and the Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

For Nisa, art is more than expression: it is a revolutionary act of healing, defiance, and liberation.

Her international development includes artist residencies in China and Iran, and participation in the Angkor Photo Workshop in Cambodia. Her work has been exhibited and screened in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Switzerland — at venues including Objectifs Gallery (Singapore), LASALLE College of the Arts, Cemeti Art Institute, and Tembi Museum.

Alongside her personal practice, Nisa contributes to the creative industry through Melantang Cinema Production House. Across film, photography, textiles, and installation, her art continues to explore societal issues, women's experiences, and the disparities between generations.
