M.Ryan NH

M. Ryan NH (b. 1997, Mojokerto, Indonesia) is an emerging contemporary painter whose practice turns the overlooked fragments of daily life into meditations on memory, value, and perception. A graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta (BFA Painting, 2022), Ryan approaches the commonplace with philosophical curiosity — tracing how simple, habitual objects can evoke the deepest human emotions.

His works often begin with encounters: an ordinary utensil, a discarded fragment, a remembered shape. Through intuitive transformation, he redefines these objects, layering them with personal experience and collective resonance. The result is a visual language that feels both rational and emotional, familiar yet strangely renewed.

Ryan describes his process as “translating the unnoticed into something that can move us.” His refined compositions and restrained palette reveal an architect’s eye for form and proportion — a reflection, perhaps, of the spatial thinking admired by those who encounter his work.

He has received growing national recognition, including:

Ryan’s paintings have been exhibited widely across Indonesia, with notable presentations at Langgeng Art Foundation, Sangkring Art Project, National Gallery of Indonesia, and Art Jakarta. His ongoing Senapan Plastik series explores how consumer material becomes metaphor — a subtle commentary on the tension between transience and attachment.
