Khoir Rumon

Khoir Rumon (b. 1996, Indonesia) is known for his satirical paintings featuring sheep — humorous yet poignant symbols of conformity and human behaviour. A graduate of ISI Yogyakarta, he explores power, identity, and alienation through minimalist compositions that blend wit, irony, and quiet social critique.

  • Khoir Rumon (b. 1996, Surabaya, Indonesia) is a contemporary artist whose practice blends minimalism, satire, and social commentary. Known for his recurring motif of the sheep, Rumon uses this humble creature as a mirror to human behaviour — a symbol of conformity, alienation, and collective obedience disguised in humour and charm.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2021, Rumon has participated in over fifty exhibitions across Indonesia. His prolific output — from student-led collectives to institutional showcases — reveals a deep commitment to artistic process and community.

Through deceptively simple compositions, Rumon builds layered narratives that expose the hierarchies, absurdities, and power dynamics of social life. His sheep are both innocent and ironic: stand-ins for the voiceless, the obedient, and the overlooked. Beneath their quiet humour lies a critique of the pressures to conform, to belong, to obey.

A muralist, painter, and storyteller, Rumon works with the same mischievous grin that defines his art — revealing that laughter, too, can be a form of rebellion.
