Georgie Wheeler

Georgie Wheeler is a British multidisciplinary artist whose work fuses street energy with painterly precision. Layering acrylics, spray paint, biro, and collage, she reimagines pop culture, film, and online imagery into bold, chaotic worlds that feel both familiar and fantastical. Trained in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University, Wheeler lives and works in Hastings, creating art that playfully examines identity, nostalgia, and the beautiful mess of being human.

  • Georgie Wheeler (b. United Kingdom) is a multidisciplinary British artist whose practice dances between chaos and control, history and pop, humour and critique. Working across acrylics, spray paint, biro, collage, and watercolour, Wheeler builds layered compositions that collide the nostalgic with the subversive — a “lasagne of terrible jolliness,” as she describes it, where beauty and absurdity coexist in uneasy harmony.

Her imagery reinterprets fragments of collective memory — historical icons, cinematic stills, digital ephemera, and anonymous faces sourced online — merging them with her own imaginative characters to create scenes that feel at once familiar and fictional. In this playful remix of visual culture, she questions how identity, spectacle, and history are constructed through image-making.

Trained in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University, Wheeler’s early work explored the world of social deviants and shock art, a fascination that continues to underpin her aesthetic of disruption. Before pursuing art full-time, she served as Head of Art at Watford Grammar School for Girls, specialising in Graphics, Fine Art, and Photography.

Now based in Hastings, Wheeler continues to expand her practice beyond the studio walls — bringing the raw energy of street art into dialogue with painterly craft and conceptual rigour. Her works are bold yet vulnerable, sardonic yet sincere: a mirror held up to the absurd theatre of modern life.
