Anoora Chapek

Anoora Chapek (b. 1971, Malaysia) is a Temuan artist whose luminous paintings have redefined what indigenous and intuitive art can be. Descended from a lineage of dragonkeepers and guardians of Batu Caves, she embodies an unbroken connection to the natural and spiritual worlds — a channel through which colour, memory, and myth converge.

Her artistic awakening began in 2020 through therapeutic art sessions guided by artist and therapist Honey Khor, who recognised in Anoora a raw and untamed creative force. What began as a form of healing soon became revelation: each canvas opened as a portal between ancestral memory and cosmic vibration.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Anoora paints in radiant, ecstatic colour — primal reds, jungle greens, cosmic blues — giving form to the unseen energies of the forest and the dreamtime. Her visual language is intuitive and transcendent, simultaneously fierce and innocent, echoing the pulse of Malaysia’s earth-rooted cosmology.

As both artist and vessel, Anoora’s practice is an act of remembrance — a return to the sacred source where colour, form, and spirit become one. Her art bridges the shamanic and the contemporary, offering an authentic voice from Malaysia’s Temuan people to the global stage.

Since her first solo exhibition, Savage Punk Abstractionism (Magick River, 2023), Anoora has captured the attention of collectors and curators drawn to her visceral honesty and unfiltered brilliance. Her paintings are more than visual works — they are transmissions, alive with rhythm, resistance, and revelation.
